Mayo Writers' Block Named as
Writers' Group of The Year
The Mayo Writers' Block have won the 2008 Ink
Writers' Group of the Year, organised by Longford County Council. more

Claremorris
The Mayo Writers' Block hosted
a visit of The Salt Coast Sages, - a top US poetry group from
Maine USA in Claremorris Library on Wednesday October 10
2007. Kelly Lombardi, Gerald George, Grace Sheridan
and Phil Rose read from their recent work.
Anthology
Launch
"standing in the gap"
the first anthology of work by the Mayo Writers' Block was recently launched in the Dalton Inn Hotel, Claremorris, by Michael D. Higgins, TD. The collection of poetry, prose, scripts, etc. is is edited by Terry
McDonagh.
The anthology includes the work of 22 local writers and the content is
varied. The book is available for sale in the all good bookshops in Co.
Mayo and directly from the group, priced 12
Euro. For details please contact the group. Thank you.

Force
12 Writers Weekend
The annual Force 12 Writers weekend takes
place in
Belmullet, Co Mayo on the second weekend of June. Chris Agee directed the
2007 festival which was organised by the Arts Office of
Mayo County Council with the help of Poetry Ireland and The Irish Writers
Centre. The line up of guest writers was very impressive.
A number of workshops took place on the Saturday and were well attended. A
number of writers form The Mayo Writers' Block read their work at the festival.

Prize Winners
ÁINE
EGAN WINS MAJOR POETRY PRIZE.
Congratulations to Áine Egan winner of the 2007 "In Sight Of
Raftery" International Poetry Prize. Her poem "The Tree
Ceremony" was judged the overall winner by adjudicator Ger Reidy. The
prize was awarded at a special presentation in Kiltimagh on Sat June 2
2007 attended by some of Ireland's leading poets, including Louis DePaor,
Kevin Higgins and Susan Millar DuMars, as well as Scottish poets John
Hudson and Rab Wilson. Well done Áine, and continued success from
all of the members of the Mayo Writers' Block. |
